REVIEW: Super-cute Felt by Laura Howard

Super-cute Felt has step-by-step instructions for thirty-five projects each made out of felt, as well as introductory chapters on materials, equipment and techniques. It is great to find a book in which all the projects are hand-stitched as this makes the projects accessible to a variety of crafters of all ages and abilities. You do not need advanced sewing skills or access to a sewing machine for any of the projects. This also means that the projects are very portable if you like to craft on the move like I do!

 

The book is divided up into four chapters: Accessories, Gifts, Homewares and Celebrations. The templates are included at the back of the book and the projects are all highly customisable. For example, you could take retro cake stand and cakes design from the teatime tea cozy and use it to appliqué a cushion. Or use the squirrel and oak leaf coaster templates to make an autumnal themed garland.

 

Once you get hooked on Laura's cute designs and have worked your way through all the projects in the book you will be pleased to hear that she has a wealth of tutorials on her blog. Laura also sells felt packs to help feed your new addiction to felt and hand-stitched cuteness. 

 

Additionally, Super-cute Felt would make an excellent book for using at a craft club whereyou have mixed ability crafters. The projects will appeal to a variety of different ages and as felt is such an easy material to work with it is a particularly good choice when doing craft activities with children.

 

I've already bookmarked the Gingerbread Cookie Garland, Mitten Ornaments and Toadstool Hot Water Bottle for my Christmas crafting list. Super-cute Felt is a versatile craft book which celebrates the hand in handmade and is a good choice for anyone who works with mixed ability crafters of any age - or who loves felt!
