REVIEW: The Mechanical Hand

The Mechanical Hand

The Mechanical Hand is a collection of work by artists at Paupers Press. It is a dynamic and fascinating book, with works from famous names such as Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst.

The Paupers Press is one of the UK's most prominent print studios and attracts artists with interests in various methods of printing and subjects for study. Damien Hirst's section with beautiful and bright butterflies, The Butterfly Portfolio, 2009 is an amazing collection of prints.

Each artist featured in the book has a section displaying their work and an explanation of their work process and methods. It is a fascinating insight into the processes used by talented and amazing printers.

Some of the images are simple shapes on plain backgrounds like the prints by Keith Coventry, other prints are more vibrant and graphic.

Some of the prints are designed to shock and make you think. I love those pieces of work just as much as the simple prints and the gorgeous butterflies!
