HOME & GARDEN: Christmas Front Door Flower Arrangement
It's that time of year when many an interior is decorated with baubles and lights but don't forget your front door! This simple flower arrangement is great for sprucing up your front door this festive season. The arrangement should last for 2-3 weeks.
- 1 x wire hanger
- Flower arranging oasis W~ 6” (15cm), H~ 4” (10cm), Depth, 3.5” (9cm)
- kitchen foil
- household or gardening wire (preferably green in colour to blend with the foliage)
- 12 x small branches of conifers or other evergreen
- 4 x small branches of holly (preferably with red berries)
- 2 x pine cones
- gold or silver spray paint
- 2 x twigs 5” (12.5cm)
- Secateurs or gardening scissors for cutting branches and wire
- 60cm of decorative ribbon
- Take a 60 cm length of ribbon and tie a bow leaving one tail of the bow longer than the other.
- Wrap the centre of the bow with wire and leave a length of wire hanging down.
- Wrap the piece of wire which is hanging down around one of the 5” twigs.
- Take two large pine cones and spray with metallic spray paint.
- Once the paint has dried, take some wire and wrap each pine cone in a spiral leaving some wire hanging down at the bottom of the cone.
- Wrap the pieces of wire which are hanging down to one of the 5” twigs securely.
1. Soak the oasis in water until completely saturated (i.e. no bubbles rising to the surface).
2. Cut a generous piece of kitchen foil and fold it in half. Place the oasis in the centre of the foil and wrap it up firmly to keep the water in the oasis.
3. Attach the foil-wrapped oasis to the front of the wire hanger by looping the wire around the oasis and then looping it around the top and bottom of the hanger to secure it. There are many ways to attach the oasis to the hanger, I tend to create an H shape with the wire as the cross bar of wire ensures the oasis does not come away from the hanger.
4. Push one of the conifer branches into the bottom of the oasis and either side of the oasis to create your base shape. Continue adding more conifers to create the shape you desire.
5. Intersperse the conifers with holly branches until you can no longer see the foil-wrapped oasis. Once the foil-wrapped oasis is completely covered add your pine cones and decorative ribbon.
6. Use metallic spray paint to paint some of the foliage as desired.
7. Hang on your front door and enjoy.
