Twitter Lists:
Twitter lists are a useful tool for staying ahead in your industry. Lists can give you the latest news and you don't have to spend time finding people to add to your list, you can just follow other peoples. Lists are a great way to increase followers and find followers through networking with curated groups of tweeters that share common goals or interests.
Curating a twitter list is simple, there are no special skills needed whatsoever. To make a list just click on the drop down 'lists' on your twitter home page and click 'create a list' - the instructions are easy to follow. Even simpler than creating a list is finding a list and either following the list or clicking through to 'following' and finding individual people to follow.
Take a look at the UK Handmade Twitter list I curate, it's fed by people who sign up to the UK Handmade Twitter Group and it has lots of followers.
How to find twitter lists:
I search through lists other people have made that are relevant to my market, for me it's craft bloggers and people who support British craft.
I use Listorious to find good lists. I also just look at lists my fans and followers are using - it's a web of influential twitter people. Often a twitter personality will have a number of very useful lists. I also use tweet decks directory of lists.
If you look at the make up of a list - http://twitter.com/CraftBlogUK/uk-craft-bloggers you will see that it's the users twitter address followed by the name of their list.
Google Twitter List Search:
If you are interested in jewellery lists for example, paste this search to google - site:twitter.com/*/jewellery - just change jewellery for your chosen keyword.
A list of things to do:
- Create a great twitter list - it doesn't have to be huge, in fact it's better to be selective so people want to get onto it.
- Regularly share it to your social networks to draw followers to your list.
- Blog about it to get followers of your list (your list is fab and needs to be shared).
- Tell people you have added them to your fabulous list - some apps do this for you.
- Search for lists.
- Follow, follow, follow and engage with people on like minded lists who will enjoy your blog posts.
- Tell more people about your 'useful/inspiring/kick ass' (delete as applicable) list...
- Become renowned on twitter as an expert in your field!
